The EU has the first politician to be paid in Bitcoin

Politicians worldwide compete to create the friendliest place for the cryptocurrency industry. Christophe De Beukelaer, a Member of Parliament from Brussels, announced that in 2022 he would receive his full salary in bitcoin to raise awareness of the digital currency in Europe and stimulate talks about its use in various areas of society.

"I am the first in Europe, but not in the world, to draw attention to cryptocurrencies with such an approach," De Beukelaer stated in his blog. "I don't think it's too late for Brussels and Belgium to come to the forefront of the cryptocurrencies. We already have some great companies in this area, but it is time to position ourselves clearly and create an entire ecosystem."

The number of banks providing crypto services will double in 2022

Due to the growing use of cryptocurrencies worldwide, the number of banks offering cryptocurrency-related services is constantly expanding. According to the American Banker study, which contains predictions from 153 leading bank managers from regional and global financial institutions, the number of banks providing crypto products and services will be higher than double by the end of 2022.

The survey's findings suggest that 44 % of bank managers expect to offer customers some crypto assistance by the end of this year. In addition, a third of financial managers expect active management of their clients' cryptocurrency portfolios, compared to only 13 % who already do so.

In El Salvador, more people have a bitcoin wallet than a bank account

El Salvador, the first country where bitcoin has become a legal tender, has announced a partnership with AlphaPoint to improve its bitcoin wallet, Chivo. El Salvador officials are preparing to set up 1,500 bitcoin ATMs to facilitate bitcoin adoption.

Vadim Telyatnikov, co-founder and chairman of AlphaPoint, says that more than 4 million people in El Salvador currently use Chivo. In contrast, only 29 % of the country's 6.4 million population have a bank account.
